Image Hijacking Attempt
1). For my first photomontage, and definitely my favorite of all my work, (I actually drew out the glaciers on photoshop) I did an interpretation of the “This is not a Pipe” design, by Rene Magritte. My version includes glaciers that are supposed to be isolated with the saying below it, “This is not Ice,” to raise attention about global warming, and how that is becoming a major issue that should be taken seriously. The main desire is that the image can show that climate change is an important issue, which includes a variety of things that need to be addressed, like the rising sea levels that are correlated to the melting of polar ice caps. To allow for a continued distribution of the image, the image should be placed in areas where rising sea levels would impact the livelihood of people and habitats in those regions, along with major cities that are contributing to climate change. I feel like the image does a good job of showing how a glacier is much more than just a blob of ice, and as these glaciers and ice caps continue to melt we will continue to see how climate change is becoming a reality and not just some hoax to be taken lightly.
2). My second photomontage was an attempt at recreate Shepard Fairey’s famous “Hope” poster that depicted our former President, Barack Obama, but replacing his image with a tree and the word “Growth” to address the issue of environmental conservation. I attempted to use slightly different colors for the poster and while I somewhat achieved the look I wanted, it could use more distinction between the red and maybe have better accenting for it but otherwise I am not too disappointed with how it turned out. My hope is that the poster can similarly inspire people to believe that we have the ability to make a positive difference in our natural environment, although we need to all collectively work at it if we are to actually assist in protecting our planet and its ecosystems like the forest. In order for the poster to have a maximum effect it would need to actually be placed everywhere, especially in urban areas, to allow people to think about how they are assisting in the growth of our environments, rather than the decline of it.
3). My last attempt at a photomontage, I felt was far less successful, and when it came to its appearance I wasn’t too happy with the final turn out. However, I was taking so long to make the changes I figured it’d be better to get some feedback on it before I continue trying to make it look better. I found it very difficult to find a graphic that had a similar appearance to the style of the original pushpin design which is maybe why it doesn’t look as good as it could when it comes to making an object appear as if it is someone’s head. My hope was to create an image that depicts the importance of freedom of speech in our society today that has been beginning to challenge that key freedom that makes our country as great as it is. I think the megaphone shows how today we should place more value on freedom of speech even if that means occasionally hearing opinions that we may not agree with. I believe that we have the right to voice our beliefs as long as it not used to attack someone on a discriminatory level. While I think the graphic could have been executed better and be a little more visually appealing i think it was helpful to attempt a head swap at least but if I were to place a more complete version of this image I would probably place it near a place that sells newspapers and magazines to hopefully highlight the importance of news and sources that allow us to form our own conclusions from their reports.
